"Sorry About Your Wallet" promotion

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I have a question regarding the "Sorry About Your Wallet" promotion email I received. It says "use the coupon code to buy any service" and "for VPS and Hosting the discount is recurring". Does this only apply to new purchases? Currently I have a KVM9 package that I am paying for 6 monthly. I was thinking I should switch it to a 12 month period anyway, since I'm in no hurry to move. Would the coupon code apply to that?
